Hyderabad, April 24, 2014: The promise of 12 percent reservation for Muslims and implementation of the Sachar Committee recommendations reflected the commitment and sincerity of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the TRS candidate for Chevella Lok Sabha constituency Konda Vishweswar Reddy has said.
At a time when the secular fabric of India is coming under strain, the TRS is the only party in Telangana which was ideally positioned to protect the composite culture for which the region was known the world over, he said.
“TRS is a true symbol of ‘Ganga Jamuni Tehjeeb’. It alone can revive the pre-Andhra Pradesh days of harmony, amity, peace and prosperity for the community,” Reddy said. He was speaking while campaigning extensively in Serilingampalli segment on Thursday.
He referred to the promises made in the party’s poll manifesto and said that Muslims would be given 12 percent reservations in educational institutions and government employment as against the present four percent. The TRS leader said that Urdu would continue to enjoy the status of second official language.
The TRS was the only party in the region that has promised to implement the Sachar committee report for welfare and development of minorities in letter and spirit if voted to power in the coming
“The protection of Wakf properties was another key promised made by us. We have drawn up plans to give judicial powers to the State Wakf Board and approach the Supreme Court to restore Wakf properties which have been encroached upon,” he said.
It may be recalled that TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao had recently promised to give two prominent posts in the Cabinet to representatives from minority community if the party was voted to power.
These set of promises, Vishweswar Reddy said, was the cornerstone of TRS’ election manifesto and reflected the party’s commitment to all-round development of minorities in Telangana.
